Culture Differences Between the U.S. & China
China vs. United States Theme Parks
The photos to the left depict two theme parks, one in the United states and one is in China. The top picture is of a theme park designed to steer children to conventional careers. Girls are able to try out being flight attendants, which is considered a respectable career for a women in China. Boys generally try out jobs that are considered tough, and masculine like security guards. In contrast theme parks in the United States are full of roller coasters, thrill rides, junk food and carnival games. This small difference in countries gives a hint to the larger gender role differences between the United States and China. China's traditional beliefs that men should be masculine, superior and dominant while women are submissive and weak leads to the beliefs that men should hold jobs like security officers, CEO's of businesses and other important 'manly' jobs. This is evident in the theme parks that train children at a young age which career paths are acceptable for their gender.

Sex Education & Contraception Differences
There are many differences between the U.S. and China. The U.S. tends to be more open when discussing sex and what that entails. While China is much more conservative. The U.S. has made much further advances in the teachings of sex to our youths and has that section mandatory in all public schools. China on the other hand is in the process of having ALL schools cover the topic. While there is movement there is still a majority of youth that know little to nothing about the subject.
Contraception in the two countries seems to be night and day. In the U.S. we offer many forms of contraception and allow the individual to chose whatever works for them. While China has very strict policies as to what you can and cannot use. An example of this would be birth control pills, etc.

Business Relationships
The way business is conducted in the United States is opposite to how it is conducted in China. One of the major differences in business relationships is that the Chinese expect to have close relationships built on trust with their business associates while Americans are not as concerned with personal relationships except for the occasional business dinner or office party. Another difference is that the Chinese put a lot of importance on being patient and spending the time to build relationships with their business partners. In contrast, Americans try to be as efficient as possible. Overall the Chinese value trust, time spent on building relationships with clients and business partners and the patients to foster those relationships. American's seem to be more focused on efficiency then relationship building and focus on getting what they need from people with the least amount of interactions possible.

Education
There are several differences that set the educational systems of the United States and China apart. Class sizes vary considerably. In China class sizes are around 55 to 65, teachers are responsible for teaching two classes throughout their 8 period schedule. In contrast class sizes in the United States are roughly 25 to 30 with teachers being responsible for five to six classes a day. Another differences is that in China the students stay in one classroom for the duration of their school day and teachers come and go to teach their subjects. In the United States it is common for students to move classrooms for each subject and teachers remain in the same classroom. Another difference is that in China your teacher follows your class from grade level to level, in the United State students generally have a new teacher each year. China's curriculum is set through the government and is mandatory, students do not have many choices in electives this is in stark contrast to the United States where each school district has different curriculums and students have numerous choices for electives. Lastly, China's tradition and importance on respect has influenced their students. Students treat their teachers with respect, they stand when answering questions. It is even common for students to help keep their classrooms clean. In the United States students do not have as much pressure to be respectful and generally do not take pride in the cleanliness of their classrooms. While there are positives and negatives to both educational systems, their contrast is evident in almost every aspect from classroom structure to student's behavior.
