Attitudes Regarding Sexual Orientation
China, like the rest of the world, is struggling with sexual orientation. Sexual orientation isn't fully understood. By definition, sexual orientation is "A person’s sexual identity in relation to the gender to which they are attracted.” In addition to the gays and lesbians around the world, the Chinese are trying to overcome the judgment of the world. There isn't a whole lot of literature regarding sexual orientation in China, due to homosexuality being prohibited. When the article, Homosexuality: An Unsolved Puzzle, written by Jin-ma Hua, was published, the attitudes toward the homosexual started to change. The article talked about how homosexual were the same as heterosexuals, with the exception of who they are
attracted to. They were just as smart and capable of living a normal life. Sure the homosexuals couldn't reproduce, but
as time goes on, adoption is always an option for homosexuals.

Male Sexual orientation
The article got both good and bad reviews. To the gays of China, the article was a breath of fresh air; giving them hope that equality was coming. There would finally be regulations against sexual discrimination and the homosexuals of China could live their life, the same as each heterosexual. Although there were many positive reviews of the article, there is always those who disapprove. One review expressed how they felt that homosexuality was a form of evil and should never be legal. Another review felt that homosexuality would be an epidemic and spread throughout the land and would destroy the society of China. The article also had an influence on those who hadn’t yet found their sexual orientation. It gave them a perspective on life and love. It encouraged them to love freely and not worry about the judgment that comes along with the decision to come out or not.
Female Sexual Orientation
Jin-ma Hua’s article also inspired the lesbians of China. At the time of the article, lesbians were afraid to express their sexual orientation. In fact, there were more gays than lesbians even though when surveys were done, there was a greater response from lesbian than gays. Most of the response of the article came from women who were charged with sex crimes.
